Package Tracker App for Outlook

Privacy Statement

Last Updated: November 2013

The Package Tracker App for Outlook (¡°App¡±) provides the ability to quickly identify and organize package tracking notices from FedEx without leaving the Microsoft Outlook client.  This privacy statement describes Microsoft¡¯s data collection and use practices in connection with the App.  It does not apply to other online or offline Microsoft sites, products, or services.  It also does not apply to FedEx¡¯s data collection and use practices.  For information on their practices, please visit FedEx.com.

Collection and Use of Your Information

Microsoft does not collect personal information in connection with the App.  Once you¡¯ve downloaded the App, Outlook will scan incoming e-mails on your device to identify those that may contain a FedEx tracking number.  When a tracking number is identified, Outlook will show ¡°Package Tracker¡± in the app bar at the top of the message.  You can then click on the App and the tracking number will be automatically sent to FedEx, which responds with the package information that is then presented within the App as part of the Outlook experience (as opposed to opening a web browser).  The package status information is not stored or retained on your device or by Microsoft.

Microsoft may collect certain ¡°telemetry¡± data points about the use, connectivity, configuration, reliability, and performance of the App (e.g., how often the app is opened, which app functions are used, the number and types of errors encountered, etc.).  This information is not used to identify, contact, or target advertising to you.  Information we collect may be used by Microsoft and its controlled subsidiaries and affiliates to enable the features you are using and provide the service(s) or carry out the transaction(s) you have requested or authorized.  It may also be used to analyze and improve the App and other Microsoft products and services.  In order to offer you a more consistent and personalized experience in your interactions with Microsoft, information collected through one Microsoft service may be combined with information obtained through other Microsoft services. We may also supplement the information we collect with information obtained from other companies.

Disclosure of Your Information

Microsoft may share or disclose information described in this privacy statement with vendors or agents.  Specifically, we may share it with companies we¡¯ve hired to provide services on our behalf.  When we share personal information with these other companies to provide services to us, they are not allowed to use it for any other purpose and must keep it confidential.

We also may share or disclose information: to comply with the law or respond to legal process or lawful requests, including from law enforcement and government agencies; to protect the rights or property of Microsoft or our customers, including enforcing the terms governing your use of the services; to act on a good faith belief that access or disclosure is necessary to protect the personal safety of Microsoft employees, customers or the public; or as part of a corporate transaction such as a merger or sale of assets.

Security of Your Information

Microsoft is committed to helping protect the security of your information. We use a variety of security technologies and procedures to help protect your information from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. For example, we store the information you provide on computer systems with limited access, which are located in controlled facilities.

Information that is collected in connection with the App may be stored and processed in the United States or any other country in which Microsoft or its affiliates, subsidiaries, or service providers maintain facilities. Microsoft abides by the safe harbor framework as set forth by the U.S. Department of Commerce regarding the collection, use, and retention of data from the European Union, the European Economic Area, and Switzerland.

Changes to this Privacy Statement

We may occasionally update this privacy statement to reflect changes in our products, services, and customer feedback. When we post changes, we will revise the "last updated" date at the top of this statement. If there are material changes to this statement or in how Microsoft will use your personal information, we will notify you either by posting a notice of such changes prior to implementing the change or by directly sending you a notification. We encourage you to periodically review this statement to be informed of how Microsoft is protecting your information.
